Afar is dedicated to providing exhibition services to our customers that provide quality and added value. We wish to establish a successful partnership with our clients, staff members and other agencies that respect the interests and goals of each party.

Our History


Afar was established in 1981 by former members of the Royal Air Force Joe Phelan and Tony Gray. It is now owned and run by James Dolan

With the help of, amongst others, George Barraclough, Afar quickly established itself as one of the leading suppliers of temporary staff to the UK’s premier organising companies. The permanent team currently include Lynn Evans, Jan Alston, Andy Smith and Duncan Abbotts.

Our Work


Spring Fair International, Crufts, Offshore Europe and Hotelympia are examples of longstanding events that Afar have supplied floor managers and other staff too. Past events also include The British International Motor Show and The Royal Smithfield Show.

We currently provide NEBOSH and IOSH qualified teams to over 20 organising companies across many events in the UK and also in Europe.
